Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club North West.
The local branch of the Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters club had two buses travel to the recent World Cup Playoff second leg game which Ireland lost on a score line of five goals to one.
There was much excitement and anticipation of success in the Aviva Stadium which was strengthened in the sixth minute by a Shane Duffy goal. An own goal, the brilliance of Christian Eriksen who secured a hat-trick and Nicklas Bendtner penalty silenced the home crowd.
Ireland is out of the World Cup and while disappointment has been great, our road during the campaign was enjoyable. At every game home and away the local supporters club had representatives.
The club flag hung alongside the Sligo Rovers flag at all games from the Metlife stadium in New Jersey for the friendly v Mexico to Serbia, Austria, Georgia, Moldova and Wales and Denmark.
Under the stewardship of Martin O’Neill, Ireland have played 45 games, won 18, drew 16 and lost 11 between friendly and competitive games. The Supporters club North West will be hoping that no knee jerk decisions will be made in relation to retirements.
The Club are affiliated to the confederation of Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Clubs since 2015. The Supporters Club has voting rights at the meetings of the Confederation and recently voted the supporters player of the year to be James McClean.
The Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Club North West through Whatsapp, Facebook and our local media will keep members and people who wish to become members informed of club activities including a Christmas get-together, match friendlies v Netherlands or Italy as possible opponents and our AGM in March 2015 in the City Hotel in Sligo.
Currently the Club has members from Bellaghy, Curry, Tubbercurry, Ballymote, Grange, Colloney, Ballysadare, Sligo town in Sligo and Manorhamilton, Mohill and Carrick-on-Shannon in Leitrim.
We are open to new members as it’s now that the Republic of Ireland requires support and not the 60 minute supporters who were leaving the Aviva on November 14, when Ireland needed the support.
