The Market Yard in Carrick on Shannon
As part of the launch celebrations of the newly formed community performance space - Live at the Market Yard, Carrick-on-Shannon - the organisers invite everyone to come and enjoy the Carrick Community Youth Festival which takes place on Friday, the 8th of August, from 4 to 9 pm.
Admission is free, and you can enjoy several live performances by young people from Leitrim and Roscommon, with refreshments and light food.
“What a fantastic venue to bring the community together and showcase the talents of our youth and the facility that is The Market Yar. The festival is inviting all young singers/songwriters to come and perform their original music from 4 to 6 pm,” a spokesperson said.
The incredibly talented young pianist Lenny Chen will captivate the audience with a selection of well-known classical pieces, which showcase his skill and passion for the piano, and he will offer the community a performance of beautiful and memorable music from 6 to 7 pm. From 7 to 9 p.m.
Music Generation Roscommon is performing their show, End of a Century, especially created for the Boyle Arts Festival. The concert is the third sell-out show created for the festival.
This year, the students explored two main themes. What music was being created in the last decade of the 20th century, and what artists wrote about when exploring themes of a new century, like social change, the future, and the human condition?
The show features music from the 90s, renowned for its creativity, authenticity, and diversity. Bands like Nirvana and Radiohead brought raw emotion and introspection, while hip-hop legends used powerful lyrics to tackle real issues.
So expect distorted guitar sounds, dark lyrics, and a raw, unpolished style.
The festival is for everyone of all ages and music tastes, a wonderful opportunity for young people to come and showcase their talents, meet like-minded youths, and have fun.
“So do come along… This is an open invitation to you, your family, and your club or organization members, so please spread the word.
“We are expressing our gratitude to all those who contributed to this project,” The Chairman and Board of MRD.
Also, they urge you to please keep in mind a performance by the Brendan Kelly Band on August 15th from 8 to 10 pm with supporting act Par 9, a young, upcoming band from Roscommon Town.
The admin fee for this event is €10.
