Paracuellos de Jarama Pulse and Plectrum Orchestra and Choir presents a concert in Ballinaglera Community Hall on Monday, August 20 starting at 9pm.
The group hails from Paracuellos del Jarama, a small town in the urban area of Madrid, Spain and presents mainly traditional music and song. They will play at the Cavan Fleadh, in Boho, Fermanagh and in ballinaglera as part of their trip.
Their desire to widen the frontiers of this very popular Spanish music has driven them to seek places like Leitrim, Cavan and Fermanagh where traditional music is widely appreciated and practiced. This has come about through the friendship of one of the members of the group and current Cultural, Education and Sport Counsellor for the town, María Angeles Peran with Belén Agudo Crespo, the wife of a native Derrylin man, Martin Murphy, who has lived in Madrid, for the past twenty years.
The group will be represented by 35 of its musicians and singers, part of the overall group, which for logistic reasons, and the crisis in Spain, have not all been able to come. The group will spend five days in Fermanagh and will be performing in the Cavan Fleadh on the Sunday, August 19. They will be performing in Ballinaglera August 20 and in Boho, Co Fermanagh on August 22. They are looking forward to bringing a little bit of Spanish culture to Ireland that is not so well known outside Spain. “Not all things Spanish are paella, flamenco and the greatest football team in history!” states Maria Angeles Peran.
Tickets are priced at just €7 (including refreshments) and are available from Ballinaglera Community Hall or by contacting Isobel at email@example.com or 087 3741817, or pay at the door. The 3CAP project is a cross border project supported by the International Fund for Ireland.
