Ballinaglera is the place to be this weekend as the parish gets ready to host its 4th annual traditional music festival.
Every year brings changes, with this year proving no exception, as our festival lost two of its biggest supporters in Swithin Mc Partlin and Josie Gilrane. RIP.
Our opening concert on the Friday night in Ballinaglera Community Hall at 9pm, which will feature the cream of Ireland’s traditional artists, including Oliver Diviney, Tommy Guihan, Oliver Loughlin and John Mc Cartin plus some very special guest singers, will be held in memory of Swithin and Josie who both sadly departed from their beloved Ballinaglera this year. Refreshments will be served on the night.
Saturday, 12th will see the arrival of the famed Mulligan family from Dundalk and the multi- talented Sweeney family from Killeshandra playing in Skerry Rynn’s Public House at 9.30pm.
Also on Saturday and back by popular demand is the Sean Nós Dancing workshop, (4-6pm) hosted by Leitrim’s own world champion, Louise Devitt from Drumkeeran. And don’t forget the early evening youth session featuring Ballinaglera’s rising stars (6-8pm).
Sunday will see Ballinaglera welcome two of the country’s finest button accordionists to its festival, namely, young Sligo maestro Daithí Gormley (in Skerry Rynn’s) and the living legend from Connemara, Mr PJ Hernon (in Mulvey’s ).
All musicians are welcome to attend and join in the sessions.
Don’t miss a great weekend of music, culture and craic, in very traditional surroundings, in a most scenic part of the county. See you there!
