This weekend, October 25-28th, sees the welcome return of the ‘Sessions at the Shannon’ traditional Irish music festival to Carrick.
11 pubs - Murtaghs, Dunnes, Flynns, An Poitin Still, The Swan, Glancys, The Oarsman, The Anchorage, Cryans Bar, Cryans Hotel and The Landmark, will host over 30 musicians in music sessions over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
This year’s festival also has lots of fringe events running - on Saturday, Cathy Martin and students will be doing a harp and song recital in Lena’s Tea Room at 11am, followed by a fiddle and flute session with Clare Bohan and friends in Geraghty’s Shop at 12.30pm. The students and tutors of Carrick Trad Classes will play an afternoon session in The Bush Hotel at 3pm.
Sunday is the Singing Session with Paddy and Mick O’Rourke, in Cryan’s music room from 6pm.
Monday sees the ever popular Session Finale on Moon River set sail at 3pm. Afterwards, it’s up to The Bush Hotel in your finest Halloween fancy dress for the Sean Nós ar an tSionnan dancing party, for the Chernobyl Children’s Asylum. See you at a session!
