John B Keane’s acclaimed play, The Chastitute, directed by Gus Ward, is returning to The Corn Mill Theatre in Carrigallen this weekend for a seven night run.
The central charcter, John Bosco, is a 53 year old bachelor living in rural Leitrim. He has been consigned to a life of celibacy by a combination of religiously inspired sexual guilt, social ineptitude and plain bad luck. His fate is not, as he explains himself, the result of a lack of effort on his part.
A combination of flashbacks, imaginings, and actual happenings illustrate his endeavors with the opposite sex. His run of failure continues throughout the play in spite of the ministrations of a matchmaker, his aunt Jane, a smooth-talking lothario, and even the local priest, all of whom are filled with parochial advice on the subject.
The Chastitute is running on Thursday, October 20; Friday, October 21 and Saturday, October 22. It will also be returning on Wednesday, October 23; Thursday, October 27; Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29.
Doors open at 8pm with the show starting at 8.30pm sharp.
Early booking is advised. To book your seat ring the box office on (049) 4339612 or email The Corn Mill on firstname.lastname@example.org.
