This Friday, September 5 sees the opening of “Beautiful Ireland as I see it”, an exhibition of oil paintings by Mary Wilson at the Solas Gallery, Ballinamore.
Mary is a well known and popular artist whose work has been seen in many exhibitions around the area, this is the third time Mary has had a Solo Show at the Solas Gallery, previously sharing the space with another artist, but this time using the full gallery for her scenic works. Originally from England, Mary now lives in Rooskey. She spends part of the year visiting family in Australia, adding more inspiration to her already inspiring work.
The pieces Mary creates are individual snapshots of things she has observed and sketched, photographed or even brought together components from many scenes along with a little artistic licence culminating in a pleasing fantasy. A lot of Mary`s work is done at home in her studio, but she is happiest when she can work on location.
There will be about 46 paintings in this exhibition, an eye catching collection of sea and landscapes, some well known views, others hidden secrets off the beaten track. Some examples are “Boathouse at Westport”; “Keem Bay, Achill”, mountain views of Ben Whiskin and Ben Bulben; a dreamy view of the Landmark Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon; Seascapes; Waves; Sunsets and some scenes from Australia. All observed with the subtle colour and texture differences brought about by the changing seasons and light levels. Mary Wilson is an artist totally committed to improving her art and therefore bringing pleasure to others. Recently she has been trying other techniques and has just started portrait painting, but that is for her next exhibition.
The exhibition opens this Friday at 7.30pm and runs until September 28. It will be launched by Gail Quin, Committee member. Call the gallery above the Four Seasons on 071 9644210.
