Each year for over 40 years, the Irish Pilgrimage Trust has been travelling to Lourdes, taking young people with special needs from all over Ireland.
They travel on Easter Sunday and participate in a unique week in Lourdes. During the week there is a varied spiritual and social programme which is adapted to appeal to the young people and the trip to Lourdes is a holiday as well as a pilgrimage.
The pilgrimage is designed specifically with the young people in mind and is divided into small groups of approx 11 young people and eleven carers.
All the adult carers including Group Leaders, Nurses, Doctors and Chaplins travel as volunteers, pay for themselves and fundraise to cover the costs.
This year ‘Group 108’ will bring 12 young people from Leitrim, Roscommon, Longford and Westmeath to Lourdes at Easter. The cost for each young person is approx €1,000.
The group are fundraising to cover the cost of the young people who will travel this year and are holding a fashion show on Thursday February 21 in the Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon at 8pm.
There are a number of shops taking part and it should be a most enjoyable night. Do come along and support this very worthy cause.
