Take pleasure in an evening of whiskey tasting and be one of the first to see contemporary jewellery designer Paul Coyne’s new collection from 7.30pm this evening (February 27) at Leitrim Design House, Carrick-on-Shannon.
Paul Coyne’s new jewellery collection artfully combines the contemporary elegance of matt sterling silver with the golden patina of wood carved from old whiskey casks.
Two classic materials fuse – the hallmarked matt silver, restrained in its reflection, frames the heritage wood now tinted pale gold in hues absorbed from fine malts and mature Irish whiskey blends during the aging process.
‘55b’ is Pauls third collection an expression of modern Irish craftsmanship steeped in character, heritage and history. The collection is named after the number of the barge that once transported world famous Tullamore Dew whiskey from its renowned distillery along the Grand Canal to Dublin on its journey to international acclaim.
The designer hails from the whiskey town of Tullamore where he grew up with a passion for contemporary design. That passion led him to study furniture design at G.M.I.T. Letterfrack and then to work in the construction industry.
The financial downturn saw Paul lose his job, an event he saw as an opportunity to re-invent himself. So, continuing to use the medium he always loved to work with, he set up his own company, Nine Design, and began designing a range of jewellery made from wood.
Paul will bring his collection along with a whiskey tasting experience that will ensure you have a great night out; We Banjo 3 & I Draw Slow will perform in The Performance Space afterwards at 8.30pm. Be inspired and be entertained!
