The Five Glens Arts Festival 2015 will take place in the market town of Manorhamilton from 20th to 23rd August.
This is a celebration of the arts in all their forms and taps into the profound level of creativity that is alive and very well in the North West of Ireland.
On Saturday, August 22 at 3pm is the The Dermot Healy Poetry Award, an international poetry competition judged this year by Aosdána member and publisher of The Gallery Press, Peter Fallon. First Prize is €1000 plus a perpetual bronze trophy designed by renowned sculptor Jackie McKenna and which will be presented by last year’s winning poet Patrick Deeley. There are two runner up prizes of €100 each. The ceremony will include readings and conversations in a relaxed and casual environment.
On Friday, August 21 Mercurial - A selection of International & Irish Film, curated by Kathy O’Leary will be on show at 8pm. Short films include David Holmes & Helen Sharp ‘I Am Here’, Afri Ireland & Dearbhla Glynn ‘Fermanagh’s Future’, Johnny Lawson ‘Nature Sounds’, Ruth LeGear ‘Alchemical Waters’, Kathy O’Leary ‘Second Sight’ and Mathieu Alepin ‘Farewell’. Feature Film by Michael Higgins ‘At One Fell Swoop’.
On Saturday night, August 22 Poetiquette, a night of original Poetry and Music will commence at 8pm.
First time to an Irish stage the acclaimed poet and author Anthony Anaxagorou is the headline act of what promises to be an evening not to be missed. With feature support sets from the linguistically gifted poets Abby Olive Groove Oliveira (the inaugural Lingo Slam Poetry Champion) and John Cummins Poetician (All-Ireland Slam Champion 2013), musical support from the Archaic Revival & Free Speaking Monkey. Early booking is advised, as tickets are €10 and limited.
