NORWEGIAN national TV channel NRK broadcast a prime time TV programme on the situation facing the people of the North West of Ireland featuring people from Leitrim.
A Norwegian TV crew visited the North West last month with top presenter Gry Blekastad Almås to portray to their viewers the difficulties caused by job losses and emigration, the effect of the recession on the area and the changes that would be brought about by the Irish general election. Gry Blekastad Almås is currently a news anchor on the evening news programme Dagsrevyen, aired on the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation.
The Big Ticket Debate between thirteen election candidates in Sligo North Leitrim was featured along with interviews with a Sligo GAA club team and other people around the area.
The crew also filmed at Trinity College Dublin to get a broad perspective of the problems facing future generations.
The election in Ireland is hot news across Europe and the programme was syndicated through the Eurovision network to other countries for translation and broadcasting.
