In what promises to be Boyle Musical Society’s funniest and most exciting show ever ‘The Producers’ opens this evening Wednesday November 21 and runs until the 28th in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle.
‘The Producers’ is a musical comedy adapted by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan, from Brooks’ 1968 film. The story concerns two theatrical producers who scheme to get rich, by raising a huge advance to fund a guaranteed flop on Broadway, and then abscond with the money when the show closes.
The unenviable task of director has been taken on by Vivienne Caldbeck-Moran, she is also taking on her usual role as choreographer for Boyle Musical Society. Musical director, Anne Kielty has once again lent her energy, enthusiasm and expertise to coax the very best from the cast and pit chorus, Anne is also rehearsal pianist and chorus mistress.
A brilliant cast of 31, including many familiar faces, have been working on this show since late August.
‘The Producers’ is full of glitz, glamour, music, outrageous comedy and some of the funniest characters ever seen on the Boyle stage. A nine-piece orchestra has been assembled to accompany the cast on songs like ‘Springtime for Hitler’, ‘Opening Night’ ‘Keep it Gay’ and ‘The King of Broadway’. If you don’t already know these songs, they will be unforgettable by the end of this week.
