Following on the success of the inaugural programme of events last Spring/Summer at King House, Roscommon County Council are pleased to announce yet another programme for Boyle’s historic house.
From Conal Gallen to local playwrights Seamus O’Rourke, Donal O’Kelly, Mikel Murphy and John McDwyer, from pop up visual art studios and children’s summer camps to magical nights of music and with a major festival planned to mark Roscommon’s gathering celebrations and Boyle Arts Festival, King House is going to be a busy spot this season.
The programme boasts four highly recommended and well-travelled theatre performances which time and again have impressed audiences throughout the country and now, for the first time, we are delighted to present them locally in Boyle.
This Friday April 12 Donal O’Kelly’s award winning production “Catalpa” opens the programme. A story in the great epic tradition of Moby Dick and Gone with the Wind, Catalpa, is about heroes and visionaries, political intrigue and personal loyalty, with hot romance and battles at sea. Based on the true story of the daring rescue of six Irish prisoners in 1875, culminating with the first ever ticker-tape parade in New York City, we promise an epic adventure story that challenges the nature of heroism. Catalpa is a performance that almost everyone has heard about and now you get to see it for yourself.
