Vincent Woods, John F. Deane and Wayne Frankham are amongst some of the readers set to appear at Travelling by Candlelight, a Written Word Weekend fundraiser to be held from 8.30pm this Saturday, July 14.
The venue will be St. John’s Church, Church St, Drumshanbo which will be fully lit by candles on the night for what should prove to be a very special and intimate performance. Vincent Woods, a Leitrim native, is a published poet, The Colour of Language, and his work as a playwright includes A Cry from Heaven, At the Black Pig’s Dyke, John Hughdy and Tom John and Song of the Yellow Bittern. He might be best known however for presenting The Arts Show on RTE Radio 1.
John F. Deane was born on Achill Island and is a long established poet who founded Poetry Ireland and had his latest collection, The Eye of the Hare, published last year by Carcanet. Wayne Frankham is a promising young poet from Roscommon. There will be music on the night provided by Leena Walsh and Marcy Kenny and others with Eileen O’Toole to host.
The fourth Written Word Weekend will be held as usual over the August bank holiday in Drumshanbo. Details can be found at writtenwordweekend.wordpress.com
