One of the biggest festivals in the region, Ballinamore Family Festival returns next week with seven nights of free entertainment!

Forget the drab weather, you don’t need sunshine to have a good time, you need friends, family, entertainment and good craic - all of these and more will be in Ballinamore next week!

The festival opens this Sunday, August 9 at 5pm by local author Cormac OSuilleabhain and World Power lifting Champion Tommy ‘Spike’ McCormack. The opening will be followed by a free open air performance by Patrick Feeney.

On Monday 10, there are plenty of activities for young and old including mural painting and swimming competition in Riversdale for the kids, body zorbing, a Political & Military walking tour of Ballinamore and Housewife of the Year Award. Ritchie Remo will brighten up any Monday blues with a free concert at 8pm in the centre of town. Festival fundraiser table quiz in Jackies at 10pm.

Tuesday 11th is Ballinamore Agricultural Show Day.

The field opens at 9.30am with judging starting at 11am. Horses, cattle, sheep and dogs will be judged as well as driving style & appearance, glamorous granny, best dressed lady and tossing the sheaf. Lots of fun to be had for all the family.

On Tuesday night do no miss the Ceili at the Crossroads on High Street at 8.30pm and the Legends of American Country will play a free open air concert at 9pm on Main Street.

Wednesday, August 12 is a day full of activities including kayaking on the canal, skittles for ladies, gents and children, the always fun Over 40s Mens Football and Binocular Soccer & Dodge Ball on Main Street!

Country favourite Robert Mizzell will perform the free open air concert at 9pm. The Festival rock & roll quiz in Priors starts at 10pm.

John McGahern Memorial Tour will start off Thursday 13, followed by kids go carts/scooters and bicycle races, inter club girls and boys blitz tournament and ‘The Ultimate Ladies Night Out’ at 6.30pm in the Standing Stone. Johnny Brady is on the open air stage at 9pm.

Friday 14th hosts the tiny tots disco, the senior citizens party, the Ballinamore Athletic Club Open and the annual Bed Race on Main Street! But the Friday night of the Ballinamore Festival is world renowned for it’s Fancy Dress Parade! Keltic Storm will provide the free music from 9pm and the Fancy Dress starts at 11pm.

Saturday night of the Ballinamore Festival is always a winner, but there is plenty going on during the day too. Children’s Fancy Dress, Kids Talent Competition, Canal Games and Hunt the Duck will keep the kids occupied. The Ball Race at 5pm is a must see before the John Joe McGirl Commemoration Parade at 8pm and Open Air Concert by Gerry Guthrie at 9pm.

The Ballinamore Family Festival comes to a close on Sunday 16 with the blessing of the graves at Oughteragh Cemetery and huge FREE Family Fun Day on Main St with obstacle courses, slides and much more and the annual teddy bear picnic.

Jim Devine sings the festival to a close from 9pm and the spectacular Fireworks Display concludes an epic week of fun at 11.15.

Each night the pubs of Ballinamore will host their own live music and entertainment.
