Road safety improvements were among several requests discussed at a recent meeting of Ballinamore Municipal District.
Cllr Paddy O’Rourke requested that Leitrim County Council undertake improvements at the junction where St Brigid’s Street in Ballinamore meets the road from Tesco towards the Carrigallen junction near the Ballinamore Primary Care Centre.
He also raised concerns about visibility, noting that it is challenging for oncoming drivers exiting St Brigid’s Street to see oncoming traffic, suggesting that improved road markings could enhance visibility at this location.
In response, the Roads department confirmed that the markings at the Carrigallen junction would be refreshed by the District Office.
They further noted that a Restoration Improvement Grant (RIG) has been allocated for sections of the regional road linking the bridge to the Carrigallen turn-off.
Once the RIG-funded works are completed, the existing road marks will be re-established.
The RIG serves as the primary road strengthening programme for Councils, covering surface restoration, pavement overlay works, full road rehabilitation projects and necessary drainage improvements.
