'Near miss' with articulated lorry on Manorhamilton Road

Councillor asked council to provide a sign indicating no overtaking on the Manorhamilton Road outside Drumshanbo in advance of the Mahanagh/Blackrock crossroads.

There have been a number of near misses on Manorhamilton Road outside Drumshanbo, a councillor told a meeting this week.

Cllr Enda McGloin asked Leitrim County Council to provide a sign indicating no overtaking on the Manorhamilton Road outside Drumshanbo in advance of the Mahanagh/Blackrock crossroads.

Cllr Brendan Barry described how "one lady was coming from a number of weeks ago and was about to pull out from the Lough Allen side of the road but there was an articulated lorry across the white line passing out a car or another lorry. When she looked to the right and then turned around and saw an articulated lorry coming on the wrong side of the road overtaking. Maybe additional signage might help with any issues."

The official response stated that Darragh O'Boyle, district engineer for Leitrim County Council will review road markings at this location to ensure there is a solid white line where required and will assess the request for a "no overtaking" sign.
