Keshcarrigan needs more funding for its Tidy Towns Committee, Leitrim councillors agree

Keshcarrigan Tidy Town committee are a "very active committee in terms of the work they do"
Keshcarrigan, Leitrim needs more funding for its Tidy Towns Committee was the message at the latest Ballinamore municipal district meeting where councillors spoke about the General Municipal Allocation (GMA) for Tidy Towns 2025.
While towns like Newtowngore, Fengah and Carrigallen as well as Cloone received the sum of €1,429 and Ballinamore got €3,911 and Drumshanbo received €2,831, Keshcarrigan received just €473.
Justin Fannon, Director of Services said the ratios of the allocations were decided "a number of years ago" and said that "while funding has increased, the ratio has remained the same."
Cllr Brendan Barry said there was "a big enough population in Keshcarrigan" with Mr Fannon responding that the ratios "are from 2014" .
Cllr Paddy O'Rouke stated that "things have moved on since then and there are a lot more houses there now."
Cllr Enda McGloin noted that Keshcarrigan Tidy Town committee are a "very active committee in terms of the work they do and a bigger area mightn't have the same level activity so they might find it very discouraging which we wouldn't like to happen because we want to encourage as much volunteerism and activity as possible. It's important that we have a review well in advance of the allocations."
