'Boy racers zooming up and down the road' at Fenagh, meeting heard
Individuals are doing "donuts" on the straight stretch at Foxfield RC Church, Fenagh, Leitrim, it was revealed at recent meeting.
Cllr Enda McGloin asked the Leitrim County Council to review or monitor the speed of traffic and driver behaviour along the
straight stretch at Foxfield RC Church, Fenagh saying that safety measures will have to be considered including rumble
strips or ramps to deal with the problem there.
Cllr McGloin continued: "Donuts and all that kind of nonsense goes on. There is a speed detector at that location but it doesn't seem to have major impact on individuals that seem to be engaging in behaviour that's not conducive to proper road safety."
He was advised that the district office will endeavor to replace the existing driver feed sign (DFS) at the church location at Foxfield which will provide them with current speed data.
It concluded: "From this we can monitor the area and apply for future low cost safety schemes, if required."
Cllr McGloin said there are "boy racers zooming up and down the road and I would welcome it Leitrim County Council were to notify the Gardaí and maybe to look at the option to put down some rumble strips or ramps. It's quite a wide area to cover, maybe on the approach to either side rumble strips. Hopefully we can get some monitoring on that section over the next couple of weeks."
