Opportunities to relearn Gaeilge or start from scratch across Leitrim this Autumn

From now until Christmas, Irish classes in Leitrim will focus on beginners and near-beginners, including newly arrived immigrants who have never spoken Irish and Irish people who went to school but believe they have forgotten it.

Opportunities to relearn Gaeilge or start from scratch across Leitrim this Autumn

Ballinamore Library has built up a reputation for its Irish classes over the past twenty years. Hundreds of people have attended the classes and Ciorcail Chomhrá, all speaking of the atmosphere generated by tutors and attendees.

From now until Christmas the focus will be on beginners, and those close to beginners. Some of these will be newly arrived immigrants who never heard a word of Irish until they came here. Others will be Irish people who went to school but think they have forgotten it all, but they haven’t.

On Tuesday, October 7, in Ballinamore Library, at 8pm, a new batch of eager learners will begin again “ag caint Gaeilge.” Classes are free of charge, but places are limited. Ná déan dearmad – don’t forget!

There are also a number of other places in Leitrim where people can learn or improve their Irish. Over the next few weeks, classes and Ciorcail Chomhrá will start in Mohill, Drumshanbo, Dromahair, Manorhamilton and Leitrim Village as well as Ballinamore.

“Great to see the amount of people who are interested in learning or improving their Irish. Is maith an rud é go bhfuil daoine ag bualadh le chéile chun a gcuid Gaeilge a fheabhsú,” said Seán Ó Súilleabháin.
