Storm clouds gathering
There will be three additional generators for the county of Leitrim, David Minton Director of Services told a Ballinamore meeting, this week.
Cllr Ita Reynolds Flynn had said at an earlier meeting that generators need to be provided at community hubs in order to have something in place for people when storms knock out power around the county and she had asked if there were any plans to include the installation of generators in designated hubs for use in the event of storms occurring over the winter months.

Mr Minton said that resource capability assessment needs to be carried out to ensure the facility can manage the generators and that "the communities are trained up in using them etc.
Mr Minton added that the generators will be "mobile" and be able to be moved around the county but it was about picking several locations that could adequately host the generators.
Cllr Gary Prior asked when a plan would be in place and was advised that consultation between the various stakeholders will have kicked off by October.

Cllr Brendan Barry welcomed the additional generators and noted that they will be fully funded by the Department.
He said: "It will be good to have several community centres or buildings throughout the country ready to plug in so that they are mobile, whatever area is worse impacted, we have the resources to help the people of the county as best we can."
Cllr Róisín Kenny said she hoped that community members will be "trained" in operating the generators.
