Local Link should extend the bus service currently running between Carrick on Shannon and Drumshanbo on to Ballinaglera and Dowra especially at weekends and late at night, a Leitrim councillor told a meeting in Ballinamore saying that "better connectivity would make it easier for people to get out and socialise in our towns and villages."

He said: "It would facilitate people coming from both directions so those coming from Drumshanbo to Dowra and Ballinaglera early in the evening could travel back on the bus in the evening and those maybe, going out for a meal in Carrick would be able to come home safely at night."

He said that residents of Ballinaglera are keen to see the service extended.

Cllr Brendan Barry seconded the motion and suggested a Rural Link representative attend a meeting in Ballinamore.

He continued: "There are a few issues; I'm sure other members have other areas that we'd like to get looked at. We might get more meaningful progress if we could get a rep here."

David Minton, director of services said that a number of discussions have taken place with Local Link and "they are stretched in attending various meetings" and suggested they attend a SPC meeting instead.

Cllr Paddy O'Rourke said that SPCs' "only have a percentage of councillors" and said that Rural Link head office was moved from Carrick-on-Shannon to Ballyshannon, "we were given an assurance that they would always endeavour to liaise when necessary."

Cllr Gary Prior suggested that a workshop be held and this was supported by other members.
