We need lighting- Leitrim resident speaks about lack of lighting for up 12 houses

No lighting for residents in Leitrim town

A Leitrim resident, Mel Duignan, has spoken about the lack of lighting around his and his neighbours houses at Ardrum, Ballinamore.

He said that the lighting comes "up the hill so far, and we were hoping to get lighting further up. It's only two poles up the Carrick road. It would be great if we could get it over the road because there are a lot of people walking there and it would be very handy to have it."

Mr Duignan said there around 12 houses effected by the shortage. "It is hard to go out at night; you wouldn't want to go out at night."

He said the lighting he referred was installed around three years.

Cllr Ita Reynolds-Flynn had asked that if there was funding available for lighting to be extended at Ardrum, Ballinamore from Beirne's filling station that would facilitate the houses there.

The response said there was no funding provided in the Roadworks program for extensions to public lighting.

Speaking to the Leitrim Observer, Cllr Reynolds-Flynn said: "We have to apply for funding. There are 12 houses there and there is no lighting. They are connected to the town sewerage system which would make that a great place to buy a site."
