County Leitrim is putting its best foot forward this week as it features as part of a Fáilte Ireland series of exciting and compelling tours to highlight all the best Ireland has to offer.
The tourism potential of the county is currently being showcased to a visiting group of influential overseas travel operators who are in Ireland to attend Meitheal, Ireland’s largest travel trade fair which takes place this week at the RDS in Dublin.
The event kicked-off yesterday (Tuesday) and welcomes over 280 of the world’s top travel and tourism agencies from 16 overseas markets from around the world to Dublin to engage directly with 500 Irish tourism businesses.
As part of the event, organisers arranged tours of the country which took place last week and were intended to provide the visiting travel agents with a direct experience of what an Irish holiday can offer their customers, These tours included a tailored trip to Parke’s Castle on the shores of Lough Gill.
Speaking ahead of the expo, Ciara Sugrue, Head of Publicity with Fáilte Ireland said: “A visit to Leitrim provides a valuable opportunity to show the best of Ireland to these members of the international travel trade. With interest in visiting Ireland growing, our appeal remains strong and trips like these ensure that we can grow our appeal.”
The visiting group also visited Yeats’ grave in Drumcliffe in County Sligo in this important year where a number of events are planned to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the poets’ birth.
There was also a trip along the Wild Atlantic Way, an overnight stay at the Sligo Clarion Hotel and a visit to Coach Lane Restaurant in the town.
