Leitrim County Council will actively seek funding to repair the slipway in Drumsna, Carrick-on-Shannon municipal district has heard.
Cllr Des Guckian proposed that Council engineers repair and maintain damaged slipways in Jamestown and Drumsna.
The Council have completed repairs at Jamestown slipway, with the work carried out during an extremely low tide to address damage to the roadway.
“I see the Jamestown one has been completed, but the upgrade of the Drumsna one has to be done because it’s seriously broken up and a danger to people with boats and there could be accidents,” Cllr Guckian said.
District engineer Darragh O’Boyle informed Cllr Guckian that while he agrees the repair is necessary, the Council lacks the expertise and funding to do so from an operational maintenance perspective.
He told Cllr Guckian that he would consult with senior management about the possibility of involving the capital office to explore potential investment for the project.
A reply from the Roads department stated, “There is no funding available in Council budgets for such works. However, upgrade works could be considered if an appropriate funding stream was identified."
“It’s urgent that it would be done and done soon, as summer is coming up and people want to get on the Shannon. Local people deserve it,” Cllr Guckian said.
