New tourism accommodation coming to Leitrim town

A new guest accommodation building will open in Carrick-on-Shannon, following the approval of planning permission by Leitrim County Council.

The former Kelly’s Food Store on Dublin Road will be repurposed into guest accommodation.

The application, submitted by Tagustop Ltd, includes converting the property, adding a first-floor extension over part of the existing rear annex, and demolishing a section of the rear of the annex to create an open yard space.

Martin and Teresa Kelly, who ran the popular store for 36 years, closed its doors on June 28 last year.

The shop was well-known for its wide range of offerings including a deli, bakery and wine off-licence.

Planning permission was granted with seven conditions, including that the property be used exclusively for tourism guest accommodation, and that all service lines and cables serving the property be placed underground.

Additionally, site development work will be restricted to 08:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 08:00am to 1:00pm on Saturdays.
