Insurance company AXA is set to close it's branch in Carrick-on-Shannon next month.
Customers with the company have been informed by letter that the branch, located at Landmark Court, will shut on October 19.
The next closest branch for local customers is in Cavan or Sligo.
The letter from AXA last week informed customers that the decision to close the office is a “result of reduced demand for in-branch visits” and greater use of the company’s website to conduct transactions.
AXA says the move is in response to “customer needs and preferences.”
A spokesman for AXA has said the “company is responding to what our customers are telling us they want and how they want to engage.”
They claim AXA research shows 54% of AXA customers favour telephone based purchases, 34% favour online purchases and just 9% favour branch (face-to-face) purchases.
The company has not responded to the paper's questions about whether staff will be deployed in another office or offered redundancy.
