Leitrim County Council will carry out repairs to the footpath at Lower Summerhill, Carrick-on-Shannon
Footpaths in certain parts of Carrick-on- Shannon need to be repaired and replaced as a matter of priority, according to local councillor Finola Arm- strong-McGuire.
She raised the matter at the January meeting of the local municipal district where she pointed out the areas of Lower Summerhill opposite Campus 2 Scoil Mhuire, as well as areas of St. Patrick’s Park and Shannon Lodge which need attention.
Cllr Armstrong-McGuire asked that an assessment is carried out and priority is given to replacing and repairing them.
She was informed in reply that a restoration improvement grant is attached to the section of road in Lower Summerhill and the council intends to carry out small footpath realignment to coincide with the grant scheme.
They have met with the ESB and the public lighting contractor and are awaiting prices for those elements of the work.
However, any funding for the works must come from the council as the restoration improvement grant only applies to road restoration, kerbing and associated drainage.
She was told the work in the Lower Summerhill area could dovetail in with the Town Renewal scheme this year.
