Staff in the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection in Carrick-on-Shannon raised an impressive €2,210 through coffee mornings for purchase of a buddy day bed
Coffee mornings were held in the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, Shannon Lodge in Carrick-on- Shannon to raise much needed funds for the paediatric ward in Sligo University Hospital.
The staff were delighted to hand over a cheque for €2,210 for this very worthy cause.
The Paediatric Ward Sligo is a 23 bedded ward which provides in-patient and day services to the children of Sligo, Leitrim, West Cavan, and South Donegal.
Over 2,000 patients were admitted in 2017 with the average length of stay being three nights. Twenty three chairs are needed for the paediatric ward alone.
The ward is looking to spend any monies raised directly on the patient comfort fund - namely buddy day beds - for parents where the chair turns into a bed at night.
These are very costly (€1,228 plus VAT) and unfortunately the hospital is not in a financial position to support this.
