A Leitrim woman is being remembered as “wonderful, warm and kind-hearted” following her passing on Saturday, November 22.
Mary Joe Dennigan (née Doyle) of Tomiskey, Rooskey, Dromod, passed away peacefully in the loving care of the staff at The Shannon Lodge Nursing Home, Rooskey.
She is predeceased by her husband Tony and her siblings Liz, Bridie, Eddie, Johnny, Mikie and Bernie. She will be deeply missed by her niece Mary, her nephew Tom Coughlan, nieces-in-law Janet and Patricia, nephew-in-law Paul, along with her relatives, neighbours and many friends.
The communities of Dromod and Bornacoola have been paying tribute to Mary Joe, with one message on RIP.ie stating, “So sad to hear of the passing of my beautiful neighbour. Such a lovely, gentle lady who always had a smile every time we met.” Another condolence remembered that Mary Joe and her late husband were “two of the best.”

Mary Joe reposed in St Michael’s Church, Bornacoola, on Tuesday, November 25. Her funeral Mass took place on Wednesday, November 26 at the same church, followed by burial in Cloonmorris Cemetery.
Further tributes reflected admiration in the community for her, “So sad to hear of the passing of my beautiful neighbour. Such a lovely, gentle lady who always had a smile every time we met. Sweet dreams Mary Joe,” read another condolence.
Staff at The Shannon Lodge Nursing Home, where Mary Joe resided, shared, “Mary Joe will hold a special place in our hearts. She was always so thankful for the care received and had a witty sense of humour which brought some good laughs and stories. Rest in Peace Mary joe. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.”
Another message added, “A lovely friendly woman, always enjoyed our chats whenever we met. May her kind and gentle soul rest in eternal peace alongside her dear husband Tony and family members.”
