Fond memories and heartfelt tributes are being shared following the peaceful passing of a Leitrim woman on December 25, described as a “true lady and wonderful person.”
Maureen Winters (née Dwyer), of Drummagh, Carrick-on-Shannon, and formerly of Crummy, Drumcong and Aughnasheelin, passed away at North West Hospice on her birthday, December 25, surrounded by her loving family.
Maureen was pre-deceased by her husband Patrick, her parents Michael and Ellen, her infant brother Noel, and her brother-in-law John Cox.
She is deeply regretted and sadly missed by her loving family: her daughter Ann-Marie (Goldrick), son Gary (New York), son-in-law Bernie, daughter-in-law Helen, and her adored grandchildren Stephen and Brían (Goldrick), along with their partners Laura and Alannah.
She will also be fondly remembered by her sisters Eileen McWeeney (Kilclare) and Bridie Cox (Annaduff), her brothers Mike (Leitrim Village) and Frank (New York), brother-in-law James, sisters-in-law Sheena and Helen, as well as her nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

A large number of condolences have been left on RIP.ie recalling Maureen’s warmth and dedication. A former staff member of St Patrick’s Hospital, one tribute read, “Maureen remembered always with a smile, running hundred miles an hour around St Patrick's, with that signature 'white cap'. A lady to a tee, gentle and caring.”
Another condolence shared, “I think of her fondly when I was a student working with her in St Patrick's Hospital all those years ago. Maureen was a lovely person.”
The Mass of Christian Burial for Maureen took place on Monday, December 29, in St Mary’s Church, Carrick-on-Shannon, followed by burial in St Mary’s Cemetery, Aughnasheelin.
Further tributes highlighted her kindness and generosity. “Maureen was such a wonderful lady, who touched the lives of so many, with her generosity and kind acts. Have Lovely memories of our days in St Patrick’s,” one read.
Another noted, “Maureen was always a great work colleague and dear friend, she loved a great laugh, and gave us great stories and laughter, god rest her gentle soul.”
