Deaths in Leitrim

The following deaths have taken place in Leitrim and surrounding areas:

Teresa Stephenson (née McHugh), West Bars, Glenfarne, Leitrim

Teresa Stephenson (nee McHugh) West Bars, Glenfarne, Co Leitrim, peacefully, at North West Hospice, Sligo. Predeceased by her husband Ed, will be sadly missed by her sons Alan, Douglas, Jason,Colin, Barry, daughter Gloria, 9 grandchildren, daughters in law, son in law, sister Mary (Ronan) Ballaghaderreen, brother Gerard (New York) nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. Reposing at Our Lady's Hospital Chapel, Manorhamilton, on Friday evening from 6pm to 8pm. Funeral Service in Manorhamilton Parish Church on Saturday at 2pm with burial afterwards in the adjoining churchyard. House private, please.

Gladys Barber (née Johnston), Cloonaquinn, Manorhamilton, Leitrim

The death has occurred of Gladys Barber of Cloonaquinn, Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim peacefully at Sligo Regional Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Tom Fred, sadly missed by Johnston, Alan and Hillary, her sisters Harriet, Edie and Ethel, her brothers in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Reposing at Our Lady's Hospital Chapel, Manorhamilton on Thursday evening from 5pm to 7pm with removal to the Church of Ireland, Manorhamilton arriving at 7.30pm. Funeral Service on Friday at 2pm followed by burial in Drumlease Church of Ireland Churchyard, Dromahair, Co Leitrim.

Ellen (Nellie) Gurney (née Dolan) Moneygold, Grange, Sligo / Kiltyclogher, Leitrim

The death has occurred of Ellen (Nellie) Gurney (SRN) nee Dolan in her 86th year, Moneygold, Sligo and formely of Kiltyclogher, Co. Leitrim. Peacefully at Sligo University Hospital Nellie dearly beloved wife of the late Gordon. Loving mother of her daughter Clare, son Paul, sister Mary, daughter-in-law Edel, grandchildern Mark, Darrio, Leigh KellyAnn, nieces, relatives and friends. Reposing at Our Lady's Hospital Chapel, Manorhamilton Co Leitrim on Wednesday morning from 11am to 1pm. Followed by removal to St Patrick's Church Kiltyclogher for funeral mass at 2pm. Burial afterwards to adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations if so desired to the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland. House private please.

Kevin Simpson, Dromahair, Leitrim / Ballygawley, Sligo

Formerly of Ballygawley, Co. Sligo. (Ex Garda Siochana, Ballymote, Co. Sligo.) Unexpectedly. Sadly missed by his wife Sally, sons Ciaran and Cathal, daughter Evanna, relatives and friends. Funeral and Cremation to take place privately at Kevin’s request. Memorial Mass Will take place on Friday 22nd March at 8pm in Saint Patrick’s Church, Dromahair, Co. Leitrim. Máire Hughes (nee Hegarty) Garrykennedy, Portroe, Nenagh Co. Tipperary & formerly of Bawnboy/Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim. Peacefully in the loving care of Milford Hospice (March 20th 2019). Deeply regretted by her loving husband Jim, daughters Crona, Orla, & Mary, sons Niall, Joe, & Jim, sisters Kitty (Dolan), Deirdre (Forde), Emir (Mc Niffe) & Fionnuala (Mc Niffe), sons-in-law John, Finian, & Gary, daughters-in-law Dara, Claire & Aysel, her adored grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, neices, relatives & many friends. Reposing at her home in Garrykennedy (eircode E45 PY79) on Thursday evening from 4pm to 7pm. Funeral arriving to Portroe Church on Friday morning at 10.45am for Funeral Mass at 11am followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Family flowers only, donations, if desired, to Milford Hospice.

Michael Garvey,Curbane, Elphin, Roscommon / Tulsk, Roscommon

Peacefully, in the loving care of the staff at Oakwood Nursing Home, Ballaghaderreen. Predeceased by his loving wife Julia, father Pat, mother Ellen, brothers Jim (who died 18th January, 2019) and Sean, sisters Margaret, Elizabeth and Ellen. Michael is survived by his step-daughter Xenia, sister Una, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. Reposing at Brady's Funeral Home, Elphin, on Friday (22nd March) from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Removal on Saturday morning (23rd March) to St. Catherine’s Church, Killina, arriving for Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Elphin.
