A Drumshanbo native found myself in the eye of a big GAA storm last weekend.

The Donegal v Kerry All-Ireland football clash on Sunday last in Killarney proved to be a controversial fixture, with a number of incidents.

The most notable of these saw Donegal's Ryan McHugh being struck by a Kerry player. He was subsequently widely photographed being helped off the pitch by Donegal team doctor, Charlie McManus.

Donegal won on the day by 2-20 to 0-16, in what has become a very intense rivalry between the two counties.

Charlie has been the Donegal team doctor for many years.

Dr McManus is the GP in Ardara Health Centre and was previously GP in Dunkineely Health Centre, also in Co. Donegal.

He attended secondary school in St. Mel's College, Longford.

In 2018, he considered a bid for the Presidency of Ireland. He was one of six hopefuls for the presidency who were expected to make a presentation to Leitrim County Council in September 2018.
