The picturesque Spencer Harbour amenity area.
A new slipway has been confirmed for Spencer Harbour, Cllr Mary Bohan told the Leitrim Observer.
Spencer Harbour is located on the western shores of Lough Allen, and is said to be named after an ancestor of the late Princess Diana.
It is owned by Waterways Ireland.
Clr Bohan said, "We were looking for a slipway. The cruisers can come up the Shannon and can moor there but we were looking for a little slipway for small boats to be able to go in."
The creation of a slipway would allow for local residents and tourists to launch small boats at the harbour.
The project will go to tender shortly and work will commence this year on the project.
Cllr Bohan confirmed: "Work is going to start shortly and it will be ready for the beginning of next year.
Waterways Ireland will be going to tender shortly for the contractor to develop the slipway.
"It'll make a big difference because it will give access to locals and visitors that have small either fishing boats or rowing boats and allow them to go out on Lough Allan and go as far as they want," she said.
"Leitrim County Council granted permission a few years ago and went to an Bord Pleanála who granted it.
"It's a bit of good news," said Cllr Bohan.
