Leitrim County Council is expected to make a decision soon regarding a planning application for major developments at St Patrick’s National School, Drumshanbo.
The planning application, submitted by the Board of Management of St Patrick’s NS in October, is set for a decision by January 22.
The proposed development includes several significant changes to the school such as
the construction of a single storey extension to the existing standalone classroom at the northern rear elevation, as outlined in a previous grant of permission.
This extension would feature an entrance lobby, two classrooms and a unisex toilet/shower for assisted users on the eastern side, as well as an entrance lobby and a storage room on the western side of the building.
The plans also propose converting an existing classroom into a Special Education Needs room, which would involve adding an access corridor to the main school building.
Other elements of the development include the creation of a sensory garden on the southern elevation of the school, the dismantling and removal of prefabricated classrooms, and the demolition of the detached storage shed at the rear of the building.
