Gareth Gilmartin blocks for Ireland in the Winter 5 Nations Tournament
Drumshanbo volleyballer Gareth Gilmartin continues to excel for Ireland. At the winter 5 Nations tournament for men and women in England he was easily the top Irish scorer after four matches.
Gareth was the only Irish player in the top 10 scorers and second overall. Not content with his own matches, between Irish training and his matches Gareth did two great sessions with Drumshanbo cadette A boys.
Drumshanbo face D-day this week. Playing away above their expectations the boys have jumped from 10th ranking to second after their pre-Christmas matches. But they face Grange Donaghmede Dublin and Grange played superbly in their meeting earlier and won well. Since then, Grange have recovered well from a slow start to the season and are deservedly in the semi-final. Its Grange first ever cadette A semi-final and number 27 for the Leitrim school but that counts for nothing!
The Drumshanbo girls face Stepaside from the Dublin mountains, and Strokestown, who just had an impressive win over East Wicklow. The girls are expecting a very tough test: Beat Stepaside and they are in the semi-final. Beat Strokestown as well and they will be in the cadette C final. They have reached cadette finals before, but in the same year as they won the senior, is it too much to ask?
