Fianna Fáil councillor, Caillian Ellis has called Minister Simon Coveney’s handling of the fodder crisis “a complete fiasco”.
Raising the matter at the recent Council meeting, Cllr Ellis urged the Fine Gael County Councillors to put pressure on Minister Coveney to put in place more meaningful measures to assist farmers impact by the fodder shortage.
“What’s happened so farm has been a complete fiasco,” said Cllr Ellis.
“This is the worst crisis to impact farmers in living memory. What’s happened out there is devastating. Farmers can’t get fodder and they can’t get money either from the banks to try and buy feed. I would urge this Council to write to the Minister as a matter of urgency and demand that he do more to assist hard pressed farmers.”
