Eslin girl, Brenda told the paper on Tuesday, “I had an absolutely fantastic time, it was surreal.” Brenda said last year’s rose Martha Gilheaney had told her about the weekend but Brenda said you cannot describe it until you have experienced it.
“It has been non stop here, I still haven’t stopped, I will be wrecked when I get home,” Brenda stated.
The results of the regional final was announced on Bank Holiday Monday night. 23 roses were selected with six from Ireland. Derry, Donegal, Down, Laois, Tipperary and Roscommon will join roses from Dublin, Cork and Kerry as well as the international roses in the final.
Brenda said she was a little disappointed not to be joining the roses on stage in Tralee but “I hadn’t expected to win, I did my best and had an unbelievable time.”
Brenda was joined by a large group to Leitrim supporters made up of family and friends. She said the roses she met were “amazing” and they have all planned to meet up for the Galway Races and also at the Rose of Tralee International festival.
“I am so proud to be the Leitrim Rose, I really recommend the experience.” Brenda told Leitrim girls to “beware,” “I will be out recruiting for this next year, it is such an opportunity. I was treated like a princess all weekend, dinners, champagne, your every need is catered for.” The only down side there seems to be is “sore feet” from so much activity!
