Carrick-on-Shannon Water Music Festival has announced dates, main acts and a new online fund raising campaign for 2012.
A number of big acts have been confirmed for the popular festival, and there are some interesting ideas for fringe events, some good news regarding funding and a supper opportunity that you will all want to take part in!
As a volunteer-run festival, funding is vital to the Water Music’s survival. With some festivals closing their doors and funding uncertain, Carrick Water Music Festival are delighted that several important local bodies agreed to continue to fund them – primarily because of the growing reputation of the festival but also in recognition of its importance as a destination to our region. The festival are most fortunate to have some wonderful supporters and benefactors as well as our major funders Failte Ireland, Leitrim County Council, Leitrim Tourism and Lakelands and inland Waterways.
They have also secured some private funding and a generous sponsor has offered to match monies raised on crowd-funding website fundit.ie. The Funders (that’s you!) receive rewards from the festival and together with local businesses we have worked hard on a package of rewards that will capture your imagination. Please check out our campaign and contribute what you can on on the Festival Fundit page
In parallel with past years, the festival’s aim is to present a vibrant programme of classical, jazz, traditional and world music to discerning music lovers both local and visiting.
The festival opens on Friday, July 6 with one of Ireland’s premier new bands O Emperor, a five piece alternative rock band from Waterford. Supporting O Emperor is the emotive voiced Katie Kim and her band. Rounding off this great evening and taking us into ‘the early hours’, is acclaimed DJ Donal Dineen Donal.
