The Co Leitrim Ploughing Championships have been a central part of the Easter Bank Holiday for the past 56 years and this year’s event is already shaping up to be the best yet.
With everything from the ploughing competitions to dog shows, car boot sales to pony club demonstrations, there is definitely something for everyone at the Co Leitrim Ploughing Championships.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, April 7 at the property of Peter and Eileen Donohoe’s property in Gortermone, Carrigallen. There is lots of on-site parking and plenty of stewards will be on hand to direct you as you approach the site.
Events on the day include the traditional horse and tractor ploughing classes as well as loy digging classes. This year also sees the welcome return of the tractor pulling competition and, for something new, there were also be a tractor reversing competition.
As well as the ploughing events there will also be plenty of other attractions including a vegetable garden display, country markets and trade stands. Bag a bargain at the car boot sale or treat yourself to a refreshing drink or snack with everything from ice-cream to chips, drinks to burgers, on sale on the day.
There will be plenty of competition in the Dip for the Duck event and the Guess the Weight competition and Dog Show have also been included in the schedule for 2012.
The local pony club will be holding a special jumping demonstration and the littlest visitors will be kept entertained with some jumping of their own on the bouncing castle.
Ploughing events kick off at 11.30am and there are sure to be lots of new faces for 2012. The main sponsors of this year’s ploughing is Barry Kiernan Construction and the Association would like to thank Barry for his support in 2012.
