With Summer on the way now is the prefect time to tackle all those jobs in the garden. Here is a quick list of what to do this April to help inspire you to make the most of your green space.
o Plan any major landscaping work and get it started as soon as possible. Although it is still too early to start planting out new bedding plants you should start preparing your beds for the new arrivals. Get stuck into any weed growth and ensure that the ground is well fertilised.
o If you are planning on growing your own vegetables this year from seeds start planting indoors ready for transplanting in a few weeks.
o Treat the early weeds on footpaths and gravelled areas so that the problem doesn’t worsen.
o Tidy up fencing and look at carrying out any repairs on loose flagstones, broken tools or other gardening equipment. Take any specialist machinery such as strimmers or mowers to an approved servicing agent to be checked and repaired.
o Clear away any dead growth so that everything is ready for the Summer growth.
o Check your garden furniture, give it a good clean and air any cushions etc properly before putting them out for use.
o Clean all decking areas with a special cleaner to get rid of moss, algae and dirt which can make the wood slippery. Also take the opportunity to power wash your paths and the exterior walls which may have become dirty over the Winter.
o Remember the animals. To encourage more of our native species - especially birds - into your yard, why not set up a bird feed and bird bath (well out of the way of the pet cat).
