Beirne on target again as Leitrim ace is named on GAA Team of the Week for second week in a row

Leitrim star Keith Beirne has seen his superb performances for the Green & Gold recognised as the Mohill man was named on the GAA.ie Team of the Week for the second week in a row and was also nominated for the Player of the week award.

Top scorer in the Allianz Leagues with 2-17, the Leitrim star is the only player to have been named on both teams, this week earning his spot in the full-forward line alongside Mayo's Aidan O'Shea and Kerry's Donal O'Sullivan.

Sligo's Darragh Cummins is the only other player selected from a team operating in Division 4 while Roscommon, on the back of their dramatic 0-9 to 0-8 victory over Galway, have goalkeeper Conor Carroll selected on the side. In all, 14 counties are represented on the team with two Kerry players selected.

Beirne currently leads the scoring charts, as compiled by @gaa__statsman on Twitter,  after his 1-10 tally against Waterford was followed by 1-7 against London, scoring nine frees and one '50. He is followed by Cork's Stephen Sherlock on 18 points (11 from placed balls) and Derry's Shane McGuigan on 1-14.

In all, five players from Division 4 make the top ten with Laois' Paul Kingston, Waterford's Brian Lynch, Wexford's Mark Rossiter and Darragh Foley from Carlow on the list.

Beirne was nominated for the GAA's Player of the Week award along with Meath's Donal Lenihan and Kerry's Donal O'Sullivan with the winner set to be announced soon.

Incredibly, both the Leitrim Mens and Ladies football teams have the highest score difference in their respective Leagues - Andy Moran's side are at plus 19 which puts them four points ahead of both Derry and Cavan while Leitrim Ladies are miles out in front with a staggering plus 67 scoring difference following their hammerings of Kilkenny and Derry.

To put that into context, Jonny Garrity's side have only played twice and the next highest scoring difference is Kildare Ladies in Division 3 with plus 40 after three games!
