Leitrim have been drawn to face Wicklow in their preliminary quarter-final clash of the Tailteann Cup after the draw was made on RTE 1's Sunday Sport this evening.

It means that Leitrim will likely host the Garden county in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park next weekend with the date and venue to be confirmed by Croke Park on Monday or Tuesday.

Wicklow famously beat Leitrim 0-15 to 1-9 in Echelon Aughrim Park in March 2023, a defeat that ended the Green & Gold's hopes of promotion last year. Oisin McConville's side, however, have made a quick return to Division 4 having beaten Limerick by a point but putting up strong performances against Sligo and Antrim during the campaign.

The other preliminary quarter finals will see Allianz Division 4 champions Laois host New York, London travel to Corrigan Park to take on Antrim while there is a Munster derby with Limerick hosting Tipperary.

Speaking after Saturday's 1-16 to 0-12 loss to Kildare, Leitrim manager Andy Moran highlighted the possible challenge posed by Wicklow: "Oisin McConville’s Wicklow played in Division 3 this year, you can see the differences, just there in that last five, ten minutes, Kildare brought on subs that made a huge difference, we just didn’t have the energy and Wicklow should have probably beaten Kildare so that’s a huge task."

Wicklow will prove stubborn opposition after they defeated All-Ireland SFC and Division 3 champions Westmeath in the first round of the Leinster championship before they lost to Kildare by a point in the quarter-finals.
