Leitrim back in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park for Wicklow clash Picture: Willie Donnellan
Glennon Brothers Pearse Park is becoming a very familiar haunt for Leitrim supporters after it was confirmed on Monday afternoon (June 3) that Andy Moran's team will host Wicklow at the Longford venue in the preliminary quarter-final of the Tailteann Cup next Saturday, June 8, at 7pm.
The game will also feature with live coverage on streaming service GAAGO as Leitrim seek to reach the Quarter-Finals proper where Sligo, Kildare, Fermanagh and Down will meet the winners of the preliminary games next weekend.
It will be the fourth game Leitrim have played in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park this year, having played Longford twice at their home venue in the Allianz League and Tailteann Cup and Kildare last Saturday, meaning that Andy Moran's team will have played as many games in the Longford venue as they have this year in Avant Money Pairc Sean Mac Diarmada!
The other games in the Tailteann Cup Preliminary Quarter Finals will see Limerick host Tipperary in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale on Saturday at 4pm while New York visit Laois Hire O'Moore Park on Sunday at 12.30 to take on Division 4 League champions Laois, a game also on GAAGO.
The final game sees Antrim, who lost out on top spot with Sligo due to scoring difference, hosting London in Corrigan Park Belfast on Sunday at 2pm.
LEITRIM DRAWN TO FACE WICKLOW IN TAILTEANN CUP PRELIMINARY QUARTER FINAL
Speaking on Saturday, Leitrim manager Andy Moran spoke of the challenge posed by Wicklow: "Oisin McConville’s Wicklow played in Division 3 this year, you can see the differences, just there in that last five, ten minutes, Kildare brought on subs that made a huge difference, we just didn’t have the energy and Wicklow should have probably beaten Kildare so that’s a huge task."
Wicklow famously beat Leitrim 0-15 to 1-9 in Echelon Aughrim Park in March 2023, a defeat that ended the Green & Gold's hopes of promotion last year. Oisin McConville's side, however, have made a quick return to Division 4 having beaten Limerick by a point but putting up strong performances against Sligo and Antrim during the campaign.
Wicklow will prove stubborn opposition after they defeated All-Ireland SFC and Division 3 champions Westmeath in the first round of the Leinster championship before they lost to Kildare by a point in the quarter-finals.
