All-Ireland silver for O'Flynn & Smith

Leitrim’s Anthony O’Flynn and Joel Smith took home silver medals from the Masters Silver B Finals last Saturday in Crinkle, Co Offaly, losing out on a tiebreaker after a thriller battle with Wexford.

In a high quality final, Smith and O’Flynn got off to a great start and raced into a 14-0 lead in the first set before the Wexford duo of Tommy Hardy and John Moran slowly reeled them back in. Smith and Flynn were determined  and took the first game 21-18.

In the second game, it was for tit for tat and at one stage it looked as if the gold medals would be heading to Leitrim but the Wexford duo dug deep with great serves and good kills and those couple of kills were probably the difference. Wexford took the second game 21-18.

The final game was a tie breaker to 11 and it was at this point that the Wexford players really got their serve going to win 11-2. Hard luck to the Leitrim duo who really rose to the All-Ireland standard.

Best of luck to Anthony O'Flynn who will be out again soon in the Silver Master's B singles.
