GAA: Third level competition faces early postponements due to weather with six Leitrim Senior panelists involved in College squads

Fourteen Leitrim players named in Sigerson Cup panels

Fourteen Leitrim players, including six members of the 2024 Leitrim County Senior panel, have been included in squads for this year's Sigerson Cup which gets underway tonight (Tuesday February 6).

Leitrim Senior footballers Barry McNulty, Radek Oberwan, Paul Moran, Jack Foley, Jack Casey and Tom Prior, have all been included in various squads with seven Leitrim clubs represented.

The weather, however, claimed a victim with UCC's clash with a UCD squad featuring Barry McNulty and Paul Honeyman called off while the matches involving TU Dublin v University of Galway and TUS Midlands v Maynooth University also being forced into postponements.  The game between ATU Sligo and Ulster University will proceed as planned.

ATU Sligo has the highest number of Leitrim players represented with five players - Jack Casey, Kyle McCrann, Ryan Smith, Radek Oberwan and Con Doyle - take on Ulster University at home on Tuesday evening.

Leitrim Senior duo Darragh Rooney (TU Dublin) and Jack Foley (University of Galway) were set to do battle in their clash between TU Dublin and the University of Galway while Bornacoola’s Jake Shiels is a member of the TUS Midlands squad who were due to face Maynooth University.

On Wednesday, Glencar Manorhamilton’s Mark McHugh and Kiltubrid’s Barry McWeeney are members of the ATU Galway squad who face the University of Limerick in the first round.

THE LAST POINT: A YEAR NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN

Ballinamore Sean O’Heslins duo Paul Moran and Tom Prior are members of the DCU squad who take on MTU Kerry on Friday, January 10.

The winners of the eight first round ties will play each round in round 2A, games scheduled for next Tuesday January 14, while the losing teams will meet in round 2B. The winners of round 2B will play the losers of Round 2A, to be played between January 21-22, with the winners going on to the quarter-finals with the winners of round 2A on the week commencing January 27.

The semi-finals are scheduled for the week starting February 3, with the Final hosted by the University of Galway on Wednesday February 12.
