An intriguing final round of group games in this year's Smith Monumentals Intermediate Championship sees five teams battling for the last two spots in the knockout stages while the clash of neighbours Drumkeerin and St Patrick's Dromahair could see the winner claim a spot in the semi-finals.
With the draw held on Sunday, group leaders and favourites Allen Gaels will host Carrigallen in their final game while the north Leitrim battle of Drumkeerin and St Patrick's Dromahair in Pairc Naomh Brid will surely draw a big crowd. Annaduff, in fourth place, were handed a home game against neighbours St Mary's Kiltoghert.
In the battle at the bottom of the table, it couldn't be tighter with Gortletteragh hosting Kiltubrid and Bornacoola hosting Ballinaglera. The games will take place on the weekend of September 20-21.
With the nature of the draw, all games have something at stake - Allen Gaels will need to beat Carrigallen to ensure top spot and an automatic semi-final spot while Drumkeerin and St Patrick's Dromahair and Annaduff, against St Mary's second string, are also battling for a semi-final spot with just one point separating the teams.
Carrigallen, with four points after their win over Bornacoola, are not completely safe in the knockout stages as a big Allen Gaels victory could see them lose out on scoring difference if both Kiltubrid and Bornacoola win their final games.
With three teams being relegated to the Junior ranks this year, Gortletteragh could vault into a qualifying position if they beat Kiltubrid but they will also need Ballinaglera to beat Bornacoola. Gortletteragh would then have the head to head against Kiltubrid and they have a superior scoring difference to Ballinaglera.
Bornacoola could also lose and still make the quarter-finals, providing they avoid a heavy defeat as they have the best scoring difference of the teams in the battle to avoid the bottom four at minus one. However, that also comes with a caveat as if Ballinaglera beat Bornacoola and exceed Gortletteragh's winning margin by more than five points, it would be Ballinaglera who leap into sixth place.
St Mary's Kiltoghert could also come into the reckoning if Gortletteragh and Ballinaglera win and they also defeat Annaduff but they would need to secure a massive win over Annaduff for that scenario to transpire.
