Leitrim Gaels already significant chances of winning a first ever Connacht Gold Leitrim SFC title have been given a massive boost with the news that former Leitrim captain David Bruen has had his transfer back to his native club approved this week on the GAA's inter-county transfer portal.
The former Leitrim Senior team captain has been in Australia for a number of years and recently helped Perth's St Finbarr's win the Western Australian Senior Championship on a team that also included Melvin Gaels Caolan Clancy.
Bruen's transfer was approved on September 11, making him eligible to play in Leitrim Gaels' semi-final which will be scheduled for the weekend of October 5, with group stages table toppers Leitrim Gaels and second placed Fenagh St Caillins on opposite sides of the draw. The Gaels and Fenagh will meet the winners of this weekend's quarter-finals involving Glencar Manorhamilton and Mohill on Saturday and Sunday's clash of Aughawillan and Ballinamore Sean O'Heslins.
David joins his sister Kasey is transferring back to their Leitrim clubs in recent weeks - Kasey, an All-Ireland Intermediate Championship winner with Leitrim in 2024, recently returned to the colours of St Mary's Kiltoghert, lining out in their Sweeney Oil LGFA SFC defeat last Sunday in Glencar Manorhamilton.
