After a career marked by two groundbreaking All-Ireland wins with Leitrim Ladies, Annaduff's Ann Marie Cox joins a very select group after she was named this year's recipient of the Hall of Fame Award at the 14th annual Leitrim Sports Star Awards.
In an incredible year that saw her win an All-Ireland Junior title with Leitrim in Croke Park in 1988 as a 15-year old, Ann Marie's immense dedication to the cause saw her captain the Green & Gold in the 2006 Junior Final before she top scored with eight points in the 2007 to guide Leitrim to the inaugural LGFA Intermediate title.
The 14th annual awards will take place on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the prestigious Lough Rynn Castle Estate & Gardens, Mohill. The event celebrates and honours the outstanding achievements, dedication, and commitment of Leitrim’s sporting community - from athletes and coaches to volunteers, clubs, and teams.
Mick O’Rourke, Chairperson of Leitrim Sports Partnership Board, said “The Leitrim Sports Star Awards celebrate the very best of our sporting community - the people who inspire others, build participation, and make sport a central part of life in Leitrim. Every year, we’re reminded that behind every achievement is dedication, teamwork, and the power of sport to bring people together.
“As Chairperson of the Board, I wish to congratulate all the nominees, the shortlists and ultimately our winners on the night. I look forward to meeting you all on this special night of celebration for you, your clubs and our County.”
NOMINATIONS REVEALED FOR 14TH ANNUAL LEITRIM SPORTS STAR AWARDS
Referring to the process of picking out the nominees this year, Mick added “This has not been an easy job this year such has been the success of County Leitrim on many stages, pitches, and sporting arenas but it has been a very enjoyable job to consider all our sporting heroes, their accomplishments, and their individual stories.”
Ann Marie Cox certainly fits the bill of Leitrim legends, so much so that the former sharpshooter turned her hand to preventing scores when she won the Player of the Match Award as a goalkeeper with Annaduff when they won the Leitrim LGFA Junior title in 2023.
One of the most prodigious scorers at inter-county level for Leitrim down through the years, Ann Marie won numerous Connacht and League crowns with the Green & Gold during an incredible long playing career and she continues to be involved in the sporting, through coaching and administration.
