Letirim must travel to Birr in Co Offaly next Sunday when the County’s Ladies Senior team take on Waterford in the first playoff game of the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship.
Waterford were beaten by a strong Armagh team last Tuesday evening, 4-14 to 2-12, in a playoff game to decide who top Group 2 of the championship, The Munster side now meet Niall Kicrann’s side with the winner of that game facing another playoff, this time between the second placed team in Group 3,
Cavan currently hold the upper hand as they stand on six points ahead of Tipperary and Sligo with one round of games to play and the Breffni women, who defeated Leitrim after extra-time in last year’s Semi-Final, face Sligo in Drumcliffe on Saturday while Tipperary take on Roscommon.
After that, the winner of the playoffs will then take their place in the Championship semi-finals where Fermanagh, Longford and Armagh are waiting.
Despite their eight point loss last Tuesday, Waterford will prove tough opposition for Leitrim as the Munster women drew with Armagh earlier in the competition and have consistently racked up big scores.
Leitrim Ladies will make another journey to Offaly on Saturday, August 25, as the County U-16 Ladies face Clare in the All-Ireland C Championship Final in Banagher at 2.30. Under the new format for All-Ireland competition, the C competition is now confined to the best placed team who did not compete in their provincial A or B Finals. In their Connacht campaign, Leitrim did not win a game with their best result a draw against Sligo.
